Avoid falling into spoofing and know the ways to avoid it

Your email accounts may suffer from spoofing if you receive bounced messages from emails that appear to have been sent from your account, or if you receive a reply from a message that you never sent.

How does spoofing happen in emails?

When you are sending an email, a sender’s name is attached to the message. However, the sender’s name can be forged.

When spoofing happens, your address can be used as the sender’s email as the reply-to address.

Why do the bounces happen in the mails?

Some spammers use software to create random lists of emails they use in spoofing.

If a spammer spoofs your email, you may get reports from mail delivery failures that appear to have been sent by you.

How to fix the problem?

As these emails are created outside of our platforms, we cannot stop spammers from spoofing your account.

If you receive these emails, report them as spam.

Why is spam being sent from my mail?

Some spammers try to send mail with a false “from” address. Spammers expect that if mail appears to be sent from your account, it will not be marked as spam.

If you see an email in Spam that replaces your email with “I”, someone might be trying to put your email in the “from” field of the message.

What should I do to avoid spoofing?

  1. Secure your account by changing the password and running an antivirus on your computer and the computer of people you are frequently contacting.
  2. Add DKIM and DMARC records to secure your domain.
  3. Install an antimalware in your computer or in the one that you use the accounts frequently (AdwCleaner is our recommended).
