It was 30 years ago today that Tim Berners-Lee presented his first proposal for sharing information on the Internet where the idea of WWW meaning "World Wide Web"A protocol that makes use of the Internet for the transmission of data, in this case, web pages.

History of the World Wide Web

Tim Berners-Lee is considered the father of the web as he developed the HTTP, HTML and URL protocols. The need to exchange information led him to invent one after another.
W3C

World Wide Web Consortium

On March 12, 1989, engineer Tim Berners-Lee presented the proposal for what he called the World Wide Web, a system for sharing information between computers. He had been working for CERN, the European organization for nuclear research, for some time. Although he was a physicist, he wanted to work in telecommunications and computer science, at which point he began to work more on the Web. Tim Berners said that "the Internet is computers connected together, wires and physical media, whereas the web is much more abstract, where the connections are hyperlinks." What we know today as the web of information. World Wide Web Consortium or W3C was founded on October 1, 1994 in Massachusetts Institude Of Of Thechnology Laboratory for Computer Science being a consortium in a nutshell that will help the growth of the World Wide Web.

World Wide Web protocols created by Tim

HTTP -> Hypertext Transfer Protocol It is a protocol which allows you to click on a link to get to another document, this refers to the communication that can be moved from one side to another on the World Wide Web.

HTML -> Hypertext Markup Language It is a structure where by means of codes it is possible to be programmed, that is to say that by means of the instructions that are added in the structure it is linked to the pages and the files that contain them.

URL -> Uniform Resource Location These are the addresses where a document or information is located, meaning that it is a system that locates uniform web resources. The specific URL where the respective web page is hosted.

The WWW or World Wide Web

The expression WWW or also called World Wide Web is known as the spider's web in the digital world, it is the system that links an indefinite amount of files or electronic resources that are distributed on the Internet. The different files are stored in different computers that operate as web servers. When we mention WWW or World Wide Web we often refer to it as the web. To access the web requires a connection to the Internet and the use of a web browser, the browser is the software tool through which we can interact with the www. By indicating the identification or location of the resource from a computer connected to the Internet or by clicking on an associated link, we are actually using the computer as a client to make a request to the server that stores the resource, to which the server responds in such a way that we can view the requested page.

30 years of the World Wide Web

The Internet

Its beginnings were in 1969, where ARPANET was one of its main origins. Vinton Cerf together with Robert Kahn. one of the authors of the TCP protocol, this protocol being the most fundamental protocol that controls the transmission of data on the Internet. It was created between 1973 and 1974 The Internet are computers connected to each other, which share a protocol or connection rules. Thanks to that they share and transfer information such as e-mails.

Differences between the Internet and the World Wide Web

The Internet is a centralized set of interconnected communication networks. The Internet allows networks of different types

The system allows a user to connect through any communication network. It allows a user to connect through any communication network. What is important on the Internet is not the physical connection, what really matters is that the network allows communication via TCP/IP Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol. The Internet can be understood as a network of reels through which data is transmitted, data that is transmitted using different protocols. The World Wide Web or the web is one more system with its HTTP protocol that makes use of the Internet for the transmission of hypertext and hypermedia data, in this case being the web pages. It is worth remembering that Vinton Cerf is the father of the Internet and Tim Berners-Lee is the father of the World Wide Web, many people confuse the invention of these two great characters on a daily basis, which is why in one of their presentations they wore T-shirts indicating what each of them did.

What is Hypertext and Hypermedia?

Hypertext is a structured set of texts linked together by links to other texts. Hypermedia is composed of various media such as graphics, images and sounds connected to each other by links and logical connections for the transmission of information.

Tim Berners - Lee & Vinton Cerf

  • What was the first browser in history? World Wide Web was a browser and editor, Mosaic was the first browser after WWW, which contributed to the development of the web and was a cross-platform browser.
  • Mosaic was later renamed Netscape; Netscape invented the Javascript language
  • Netscape ended due to the birth of Microsoft in 1998.
  • Microsoft released its browser which was Internet Explorer 1.0
  • In 2004 Firefox was born
  • Google Chrome was born in 2008
  • The beginning of the Internet was in 1969, the same date that man went to the moon.
  • In November 1990 was the birth of the web and on December 20 the first web server was activated.
  • The initial name given to the website was "Mesh" which translates to "The Mesh". This name was discarded because it was confused with "mess" which translates to "mess".
  • URLs are important on the World Wide Web as they are defined as hyperlinks or hyperlinks.
  • IP addresses identify devices connected to a network or computer.
Conclusión Without the protocols created by Tim Berners - Lee it would not be difficult to access the Internet to find or search for information found on web pages, the invention of the World Wide Web was of great help to mankind both to connect and transfer data on the Internet. With the Internet alone we would not have been able to perform many tasks, which is why the two inventions are a great complement to what we know today.
